Our philosophy can be shown by this quote:

Sat, 11 Feb 2012 08:34:00 -0800 Creating a Global Giving Page for Zamboanga Funds for Little Kids -- building on a simple tweet and a Facebook post or two http://internationalaidadvocate.com/creating-a-global-giving-page-for-zamboanga-f http://internationalaidadvocate.com/creating-a-global-giving-page-for-zamboanga-f

I hope that the Facebook posts copied below and that  related tweets reposted there between a young intern of Global Giving, Jacqueline Jarei, and me will represent a Call to Action! and will inspire my friends at the Zamboanaga Funds for Little Kids to reach out to Global Giving for operational support and will encourage them to provide a direct invitation to Jacky to visit Layag-Layag when she travels to the Philippines in a few months:

I am encouraging

Philippine Funds for Little Kids

to create its own Global Giving profile, so I posted the information copied below at
Fund-raising to build boats so little kids in Layag-Layag in Zamboanga City wouldn't need to swim to Talon-Talon Elementary School everyday.

Update: We are now helping the Layag-Layag community in other areas for its development as well: health, livelihood, education, others.

Our philosophy can be shown by this quote:

The World's First Philanthropy-Powered 'Attention Market'
To:

Robyn,

I will do absolutely anything and everything that I can do to help!

Your life story is so incredibly inspiring and your global humanitarian efforts are so extraordinary, so compassionate and so profound. The "back story" behind OneLeap involves such incredible Leaps of Faith in the potentialities of humanity.

Although I only was able to speak with you for a few seconds when you were here recently in Las Vegas, it was a true thrill for me to be able to shake your hand and to meet you in the flesh.  And your TEDx Calico Canyon presentation on the true inner humanity of the South African inmates for life was simple, powerful, thought-provoking, full of challenges to stereotypes and also full of the possibilities of redemption and reform in life.

Humbling and thought provoking.  Touching and captivating.

Your life is a continuous roadmap for improving the status quo, for bringing a light to arenas of darkness, for breaking down of stereotypes, and for uplifting those who might otherwise be forgotten or, perhaps even worse, dismissed and frowned upon by others.

Thank you for touching my life and that of so many others.

With the greatest of admiration,

Rick

 P.S. I am :bcc'ing this correspondence to you and to a WIDE swath of my various social media networks!

Dear Rick,

I'm delighted to announce that the new OneLeap site - recently mentioned in the Independent, StartupTV and chosen for the prestigious Unreasonable Institute - is now live and already creating fantastic connections, each also helping a great charity.

OneLeap enables anyone who signs up to get through to any professional contact, and get a guaranteed reply. OneLeap is also a filter for busy people, like you, ensuring you only hear from the best. And it does all this while raising money for your favourite charity.

Unlike social networks, OneLeap doesn’t play games with you, or ask you to tell the world where and how you spent your last 30 seconds. It’s not another daily duty. When you need to, it's a tool that enables you to make direct contact, on good terms, with hard-to-reach people. And if you receive OneLeap messages, you’ll get good messages, on your terms.

I'm asking for a simple favour. As a platform that connects all sorts of people, we've got to get in front of as many people as possible, as quickly as possible! So I'm asking the people who I most respect, who others respect, to help spread the word.

You can help OneLeap become the standard by which high-end, responsible business communication happens.

And you can help in as small or large a way as possible - be it a quick tweet or Facebook post or an email to your colleagues/friends/network.

I can't thank you enough for anything you can do to help.

Best wishes and enjoy using OneLeap!

Robyn

HOW TO HELP US

1. Signup!

Please do this if nothing else. Just go to http://oneleap.to/signup and signup in a few clicks with Linkedin or Facebook profile. (It’s free!)

2. Say something nice on Facebook / LinkedIn / Twitter

Like us on our Facebook page, perhaps say something about us on your wall.
On LinkedIn, post the link to oneleap.to
Tweet something like:
  • “Congratulations @oneleap on launching http://oneleap.to, the way to get heard above the social media din while helping your charity”
  • “I've just signed up to @oneleap at http://oneleap.to so I can receive better messages and help charity”

3. Send a charming email to a few friends
A big ask, but don't knock me for trying. Why not email your friends/network telling them about us?

Or, for the really particular, set an automatic email response to improve your inbox

Here’s one our members are using

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m now using OneLeap to help me prioritise messages from people I haven’t met. Please send me a message at http://oneleap.to/yourname
To send me a OneLeap message, you have to put down a small fee. This helps me sort serious people from the hundreds of time-wasters in my inbox. When I reply, the money goes Arms Around the Child, the fantastic charity I support - never to me. If I don't reply in 10 days, you'll get a 100% refund.
Why I use OneLeap
I don't have time to properly consider all the messages I receive each day from new people. Even if you're someone I really should be paying attention to, the chances are your email (one in a big pile) won't get the attention it deserves. I want to be open to new people, with great ideas and proposals. OneLeap lets me do this effectively - and give better responses to you - if you're serious.
Thanks,
Your name
    LED BY ZAPPOS.COM CEO TONY HSIEH, WE ARE PASSIONATE PEOPLE TRANSFORMING DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS INTO THE MOST COMMUNITY-FOCUSED LARGE CITY IN THE WORLD.
    ENTREPRENEURSHIP
    We are building a community-focused, dense urban core made up of high-density residential and a multitude of spaces to gather, most of them powered by passionate entrepreneurs. We believe that most successful entrepreneurs are people who are passionate about their craft and believe in building community.
    We believe that people shouldn’t have to wait forty years to retire and follow their passion. Our goal is to support entrepreneurs who meet a basic set of criteria:
    • Are you passionate about the idea?
    • Are you capable of executing it?
    • Does it help build community?
    • Is it sustainable?
    We aim to invest in 100-200 entrepreneurs who meet that criteria, build programs to help them avoid many of the basic mistakes new entrepreneurs make, and, combined with our urban development plans, help them build the perfect space to follow their passion.
    OUR MISSION
    We are a group of passionate people committed to transforming Downtown Las Vegas into the most community-focused large city in the world. We are doing that by inspiring and empowering people to follow their passions to create a vibrant, connected urban core. We think you should read Triumph of the City.
    We aim to:
    • Build the most community-focused large city in the world…in the city you would least expect.
    • Create the coworking capital of the world for communities including technology, fashion, music and more.
    • Inspire people to follow their passion.
    • Do it in less than five years.
    We believe:
    • Urban residential density of at least 100 people per acre combined with ground-level gathering places such as cafes, interesting small businesses and public spaces increases economic output and happiness.
    • Community development is more about the people than real estate. The physical spaces should reflect the community’s values.
    • We have the opportunity to build a sustainable community that embraces nature and reduces the community’s dependency on cars.
    We’re specifically focused on several objectives:
    • Arts, Music and Culture: Investing in events, spaces and people that provide a creative outlet for one of the largest communities of creative people in the world…Las Vegas. Read more.
    Farmers Markets and Spring Gardening
    AIR DATE: January 13, 2012
    With the revival of downtown, two Las Vegans want to bring a new farmers market to an old bus terminal near Fremont Street. Kerry Clasby, known as the Intuitive Forager and Cheryl MacPherson, a local beverage executive plan to open the market in February in the city owned terminal near the shuttered Lady Luck Casino. Meantime, Spring weather is only a couple of months away, so what should you be thinking about for your Spring garden? We discuss where you can get fresh produce at farmers markets around town and take your calls and emails about tips for Spring gardening.
    COMMENTS:
    with all due respect http://yardsprout.wordpress.com/ and related resources are about using technologies to bring LOCAL resources together more efficiently. the use of the technology makes it easier to find LOCAL solutions, not to try to implement "best practices" that might be "geographically specific." QR codes in particular allow individuals with smartphones to share huge amounts of LOCALLY useful information in efficient ways.
    Hi Rick! Here's a message for you from me and the children at GK Eldorado site in Paranaque, Philippines. Thank you for buying the book Inspired By Manila and supporting the Padua Charitable Fund! Rachel : )
    I am so very touched by the message regarding the Padua Charitable Fund
    Basic Information
    Founded
    2007
    Location
    Company Overview
    Urban poverty is a serious global problem. There are 1 billion people living in slums all over the world. In the Philippines, this problem is paramount and urgent. We can all do our bit and make the Philippines and the world an even more beautiful place to live in by helping eradicate the slums of our cities and rehousing poor deprived families in cleaner, safer, self-reliant and happier communities
    Description
    The Padua Charitable Fund was founded in July 2007 with the conviction that everyone has the basic right to a decent home, good health and education necessary to ensure the continuity of a safe, sound and happy society!
    The Padua Charitable Fund is registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales and with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Philippines. We are organized and operated solely by volunteers. We have a Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer, a Board of Trustees and approximately 30 members. Our members are united by their vision, albeit in their own small way, in helping to create a world devoid of poverty, homelessness, disease, ignorance and illiteracy, injustice and inequality.
    Home is where the heart is
    Our organisation makes financial contributions towards projects that aim to eradicate the slums of the Philippines by replacing these through the voluntary building of decent homes, to include basic and necessary facilities for homeless families as befit all human beings.
    General Information
    The Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 tropical islands, many of them untouched, a geographical phenomenon intricately positioned in the western Pacific ocean in Southeast Asia.
    It is a land of many contrasts.....Paradise-like verdant fertile islands, endless miles of stunning white beaches, clear turquoise seas endowed with the world's richest marine and coral life, dazzling hills and mountains, stretches of dense virgin rainforests as well as treacherous volcanoes and periodic typhoons ravaging homes and agricultural life.
    A young thriving republic gaining independence in 1898 after nearly 400 years of Spanish colonialisation, the Republic of the Philippines, attracting foreign elements mainly because of its ideal geographical position and wealth in natural resources, further endured many years of colonial rule and subjugation, disrupting the smooth continuity of governance and of growth and life in general.. This, coupled with a fragmented geography resulting in a clannish or regional mentality, led the country to struggle even more in attaining national unity and social-economic progress.
    It is also a land of extreme wealth and extreme poverty. With a current population of over 80 million, the Philippines' problems have been exacerbated by the lure of people to the cities where a "slum" culture is quickly established, people finding themselves entrenched in a vicious poverty trap of no decent homes, no employment, inadequate education, no choice or movement in the social scale.
    It is indeed ironic that this blessed land of natural bounty and beauty, of smiles and laughter, and of warm, generous, hospitable, hardworking and enduring people, should be unjustly besieged by poverty beyond belief.
    • A Jewish Response
    For Jews, the environmental crisis is a religious challenge. As heirs to a tradition of stewardship that goes back to Genesis and that teaches us to be partners in the ongoing work of Creation, we cannot accept the escalating destruction of our environment and its effect on human health and livelihood. Where we are despoiling our air, land, and water, it is our sacred duty as Jews to acknowledge our God-given responsibility and take action to alleviate environmental degradation and the pain and suffering that it causes. We must reaffirm and bequeath the tradition we have inherited which calls upon us to safeguard humanity's home. (From A Jewish Response to the Environmental Crisis. )
    http://coejl.org/aboutus/history/
    Home / About Us / History
    History
    In the spring of 1992 at the invitation of Al Gore and Carl Sagan, the leadership of the major organizations in American Jewish life, eminent rabbis, denominational presidents, and Jewish U.S. senators gathered in Washington, D.C. to discuss the creation of a Jewish response to the mounting environmental crisis. Those present agreed that the Jewish community had a responsibility to address the crisis.
    In 1993, the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life was created and charged with catalyzing a distinctively Jewish programmatic and policy response to the environmental crisis. COEJL was initially envisioned as a time-limited project to “jump start” environmental programs that would become permanently integrated into Jewish institutions.
    Established by the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (then NJCRAC), the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, COEJL became part of the National Religious Partnership for the Environment to enact a distinctively Jewish programmatic and policy response to the environmental crisis.
    The Founding Statement of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life
    Issued by the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life
    Washington, D.C. March 10, 1992
    We, American Jews of every denomination, from diverse organizations and differing political perspectives, are united in deep concern that the quality of human life and the earth we inhabit are in danger, afflicted by rapidly increasing ecological threats. Among the most pressing of these threats are: depletion of the ozone layer, global warming, massive deforestation, the extinction of species and loss of biodiversity, poisonous deposits of toxic chemicals and nuclear wastes, and exponential population growth. We here affirm our responsibility to address this planetary crisis in our personal and communal lives.
    For Jews, the environmental crisis is a religious challenge. As heirs to a tradition of stewardship that goes back to Genesis and that teaches us to be partners in the ongoing work of Creation, we cannot accept the escalating destruction of our environment and its effect on human health and livelihood. Where we are despoiling our air, land, and water, it is our sacred duty as Jews to acknowledge our God-given responsibility and take action to alleviate environmental degradation and the pain and suffering that it causes. We must reaffirm and bequeath the tradition we have inherited which calls upon us to safeguard humanity’s home.
    We have convened this unprecedented consultation in Washington, D.C. to inaugurate a unified Jewish response to the environmental crisis. We pledge to carry to our homes, communities, congregations, and workplaces the urgent message that air, land, water and living creatures are endangered. We will draw our people’s attention to the timeless texts that speak to us of God’s gifts and expectations. This consultation represents a major step towards:
    • mobilizing our community towards energy efficiency, the reduction and recycling of wastes, and other practices which promote environmental sustainability;
    • initiating environmental education programs in settings where Jews gather
    • to learn, particularly among young people;
    • pressing for appropriate environmental legislation at every level of government and in international forums;
    • convening business and labor leaders to explore specific opportunities for exercising environmental leadership;
    • working closely in these endeavors with scientists, educators, representatives of environmental groups, Israelis, and leaders from other religious communities.
    Our agenda is already overflowing. Israel’s safety, the resettlement of Soviet Jewry, anti-Semitism, the welfare of our people in many nations, the continuing problems of poverty, unemployment, hunger, health care and education, as well as assimilation and intermarriage — all these and more have engaged us and must engage us still.
    But the ecological crisis hovers over all Jewish concerns, for the threat is global, advancing, and ultimately jeopardizes ecological balance and the quality of life. It is imperative, then, that environmental issues also become an immediate, ongoing and pressing concern for our community.
        The Chai symbol is often worn by Jews as a medallion around the neck (along with the Star of David (Magen David), and the Hamsa).
        In Hebrew, the related word chaya means "living thing" or "animal", and is derived from the Hebrew word chai (חי), meaning "life".
It is said that at all times there are 36 special people in the world, and that were it not for them, all of them, if even one of them was missing, the world would come to an end. The two Hebrew letters for 36 are the lamed, which is 30, and the vav, which is 6. Therefore, these 36 are referred to as the Lamed-Vav Tzadikim. This widely-held belief, this most unusual Jewish concept is based on a Talmudic statement to the effect that in every generation 36 righteous "greet the Shechinah," the Divine Presence (Tractate Sanhedrin 97b; Tractate Sukkah 45b).[1]
    UPS Survey: Asia Intra-Regional Trade to Grow as Labor Costs in China Rise
    Atlanta, November 09, 2011
    Asian High-Tech Companies Shifting Sourcing To North America, Other Countries in Asia
    Rising costs in China are prompting high-tech companies in Asia to explore alternative sourcing locations within the region as well as in North America, according to a new UPS-sponsored survey. As part of this shift, half of all high-tech trade lanes in five years' time are expected to involve intra-Asia movements.
    The survey, conducted by IDC Manufacturing Insights, revealed that 19 percent of high-tech company respondents plan to source supplies and raw materials from North America in the next three to five years. Shifts in sourcing strategies will occur within the Asia Pacific region as well. Although China and Japan will continue to supply to most high-tech companies, survey findings show a significant shift of supply sourcing to both emerging and mature Asia Pacific countries in the next three to five years.
    Forty-two percent of respondents reported they currently source supplies and raw materials from mature APAC countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. When looking ahead to the next three to five years, this figure jumps to 55 percent. Similarly, 16 percent of companies now source from emerging countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam, while 24 percent plan to source supplies from these countries in the future.
    Findings come from an annual survey sponsored by UPS, "Change in the (Supply) Chain," which is designed to uncover top business and supply chain trends driving change in the high-tech/electronics industry. The 2011 survey queried senior-level decision makers at high-tech companies in the Asia Pacific region.
    "Shifts in sourcing strategies will impact high-tech supply chains throughout the Asia Pacific region as well as those in North America, creating long-term implications for the industry on a global level," said Carla Huang, UPS director of marketing, high-tech/electronics segment. "In an industry where having a flexible and efficient supply chain is essential for meeting rapidly changing customer demands, high-tech companies will need to plan ahead to ensure they have logistics strategies in place that will give them a competitive advantage in a fast-evolving global market."
    Sustainability Top Supply Chain Driver
    One surprising survey finding arose in terms of future drivers of change in the high-tech supply chain, with sustainability emerging as the top initiative expected to drive change in the supply chain in the next three to five years. Sustainability was cited by 24 percent of the respondents and ranked above well-known issues such as cost and responsiveness.
    Sustainability-related findings indicate that companies in Asia are making an investment in corporate social responsibility. Survey results reveal that projecting a better corporate image is the top driver for companies to engage in sustainable practices. Interestingly, while sustainability is a growing priority in Asia, U.S. companies ranked it as their lowest priority in 2010 with only 19 percent of survey respondents identifying it as a top issue driving change.
    While sustainability is the top supply chain driver of change, cost reduction is the No. 1 business priority for companies in Asia, especially as costs increase within the region. The majority (63 percent) of survey respondents identified cost reduction as the top business priority for the next 18 months.
    Investing in Customer Service
    Similar to findings from last year's survey of U.S.-based high-tech companies, high-tech companies in Asia are investing in customer service despite cost concerns.
    Achieving higher service levels is both the most frequent change made over the last two years (63 percent) and the change that most companies plan to make in the next two years (67 percent). In addition, 71 percent of companies ranked "better balance of cost and efficiencies with customer service" as a top supply chain priority over the next three to five years.
    Regional Impact of Disasters in Japan
    The survey also explored trends around risk management on the heels of the dual natural disasters that devastated Japan's East coast in early 2011. Findings show that risk management is a clear issue for high-tech supply chains in Asia.
    "As a consequence of continuing globalization and the lengthening of supply chains, any global economic, political, or environmental event could have far-reaching effects on the performance of companies," said Dr. William Lee, senior research manager at IDC Manufacturing Insights Asia/Pacific. "Moving ahead, we expect to see manufacturers placing greater emphasis on supply chain risk awareness and mitigation."
    Risk management/security was identified as the No. 1 "weak link" in high-tech supply chains in Asia, cited by 42 percent of survey respondents. While most companies (96 percent) reported having some sort of risk management plan in place, only 11 percent said they had the resources or readiness to react in times of significant disruption.
    In terms of the impact of the Japanese disasters on high-tech supply chains in Asia, most companies, interestingly, reported experiencing minimal disruptions or none at all due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In terms of the duration of the impact, 17 percent of companies are no longer feeling the effects of the disasters and 55 percent expect any resulting issues to be resolved by next year at the latest. These findings are contrary to initial predictions by industry experts that many companies would experience major disruptions through the end of 2011 and well into 2012.
    Also somewhat surprisingly, survey results show that while the disasters in Japan increased awareness of the need for better supply chain risk management, supply chain resilience is still a secondary concern for most supply chain professionals. In fact, just 27 percent of companies plan to improve their supply chain resilience through better risk management going forward.
    For more information on the survey findings and to download an executive summary of survey results, visit pressroom.ups.com.
    UPS Foundation Grants $58,000 to Child Welfare and Environmental Organizations
    Tokyo, November 21, 2011
    The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS), has donated $43,823 to a foster group home, Kodomo no Sato, and $14,290 to the bamboo conservation group Nihon no Take Fan Club.
    Kodomo no Sato began its child welfare activities as a daycare center in Osaka in 1977. It was certified for the Subsidized Project to Provide Daycare Facilities for Children in 1996 and as an Osaka City family shelter in 2001. Since its establishment, Kodomo no Sato has provided 24/7 support for families in adverse circumstances. The facility now provides live-in accommodations at the Kodomo no Sato Family Home. The grant will be used for children’s self-care projects, support for homeless people, winter night patrols, and outdoor activities such as camping.
    Nihon no Take Fan Club was established in 1999 to conserve bamboo forests nationwide and to educate local communities on how to effectively utilize bamboo. Through various volunteer activities, the organization has helped to energize local communities and encourage interchange between cities and the countryside. The grant will be used to hold bamboo lantern festivals, which are one of the ways the club is using to strengthen and maintain the relationship between nature and the local community.
    In addition to the donations, UPS has also supported both organizations with volunteer activities - Kodomo no Sato since 2006 and Nihon no Take Fan Club since 2008. More than 1,300 volunteer hours have been donated to both groups since.
    Masato Umeno, president of UPS Japan, said, "UPS has long been involved with both Kodomo no Sato and Nihon no Take Fan Club as volunteers. Now we are greatly honored to be able to contribute again through these grants. UPS will continue to support the community in various means."
    Le Café Goes Green with Help from Brown
    Montreal, November 22, 2011
    US$85,300 grant from UPS provides sustainable upgrades to facilities and equipment
    Today, Federation CJA received a US$85,300 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS), for their local soup kitchen, Le Café, which is located in the heart of Montreal. This is the largest grant awarded by The UPS Foundation to the Montreal community.
    The grant will provide much needed sustainable upgrades to the facility urgently needed to meet the growing demand. Federation CJA plans to implement infrastructure for an automated dishwashing station, which will enable the use of reusable materials rather than the current disposable items. All disposables throughout the cafeteria and kitchen will be replaced with durable, but still lightweight, alternatives. Federation CJA's Green Committee will be involved in all aspects of the planning, development and implementation.
    Le Café was established in 2009 to address the needs of people most affected by the global economic crisis. The food bank provides hot meals to anyone in need of healthy food, friendly conversation and good company.
    "UPS's extraordinary generosity is exemplary of how the corporate and non-profit sectors can partner together to ensure the betterment of community," said David Cape, President of Federation CJA. "Through UPS's outstanding commitment to Le Café, Federation CJA will be able to improve service to the thousands of people who depend on the kitchen for nutritious, hot meals annually. This one-time grant will enable the upgrade of the Cummings Centre for Seniors' kitchen and facilities and the purchase of new equipment. We are so grateful to UPS for their inspiring philanthropy."
    More than 60,000 meals have been served since Le Café's inception in March of 2009. Every week, more than 400 people benefit from the services at Le Café. Thanks to the grant, an additional 55 seats also will be added to the kitchen to enable them to help more of Montreal's residents.
    "UPS has had a long-standing commitment to supporting our communities and partnering with local charities," said Nicolas Dorget, vice-president of communications, UPS Canada. "In this past year alone, our employees have contributed approximately 100 volunteer hours at Le Café. That is a tremendous achievement and we are proud to support the efforts of our employees and the needs of the Montreal community."
    UPS No. 1 Shipper on 'Climate Counts' Scorecard for Third Year in a Row
    Atlanta, December 07, 2011
    For the third year in a row, UPS (NYSE: UPS) has earned the top score in the consumer shipping sector on the annual "Climate Counts" scorecard. UPS also shared the 11th highest score across all industries alongside Sony, Nokia and AB Electrolux among 136 ranked companies.
    UPS ranked No. 1 in the consumer shipping sector with a score of 80, remaining ahead of competitors Deutsche Post World Net/DHL, the U.S. Postal Service and FedEx, which ranked second, third and fourth, respectively.
    Climate Counts, an organization that works to bring consumers and companies together in the fight against global climate change, ranks the world's largest companies based on 22 criteria that focus on measuring and reducing climate impact, corporate support of public policy initiatives on climate change and openness and transparency in reporting.
    Climate Counts issues a shopping guide to help consumers "support companies that take climate change seriously and avoid those that don't," according to the non-profit organization.
    "This recognition is significant because Climate Counts rigorously evaluates performance rather than corporate marketing claims," said Scott Wicker, UPS's chief sustainability officer. "The Climate Counts shopping guide provides consumers with a signpost for companies that are truly committed to environmentally-responsible business practices."
    The Climate Counts ranking is just the latest in a long list of honors for environmental leadership awarded to UPS. Other recent honors include: Highest score in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (tied with 3 others); No. 1 in the Carbon Disclosure Project S&P 500 and tied with 3 others in the Global 500; Interbrand Top 50 Best Global Green Brands, and Fortune's Most Admired Companies list.
    "UPS's repeated and consistent top ranking in the shipping segment highlights our efforts to measure, manage and reduce our carbon footprint while offering consumers more choices that support their commitment to the environment," Wicker added.
    The Climate Counts scorecard can be found at www.climatecounts.org. More information about UPS's sustainability initiatives is available at ups.com/responsibility.
    Advocating a Low-carbon, Environmentally-friendly and Green Lifestyle
    Beijing, December 19, 2011
    2011 UPS China "Global Volunteer Month" a great success
    UPS (NYSE: UPS) made low-carbon and adopting a green lifestyle the theme of its 2011 "UPS Global Volunteer Month", during which 1,649 UPS employees and their family members participated in 57 volunteer activities and contributed 4,457 volunteer hours to serve the communities in which they live and work.
    UPS employees in China organized and participated in a wide range of volunteer activities, which included: teaching students about international trade; holding parties for the elderly living in welfare housing and for mentally disabled students at vocational and technical schools; taking part in environmental research; removing litter and promoting the importance of ecological balance.
    This year, The UPS Foundation has donated US$70,000 to the Green Travel Fund (under CANGO – the China Association for NGO Cooperation) to help Guangyuan, Sichuan Province, with its goal of advocating low-carbon environmentalism and supporting China’s public welfare cause by becoming the first city to exclusively use energy-saving lights. UPS also held a series of activities in conjunction with the CANGO Green Travel Fund. Under the theme "Low-carbon Citizen Volunteers in Action", activities such as "Test Drive and Ride of New Energy Automobiles" and "Forecast for the Shenzhen’s Year of Green Travel", were aimed at publicizing the ideas and lifestyle of low-carbon environmentalism and green travel.
    Since it was founded in 1907, UPS has built a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen. UPS has established Community Involvement Committees in every country within their business network to support programs that provide long-term solutions to community needs.
